“I know I made a hole in a lot of people's hearts and souls, but probably I had the biggest.”
- Keith Chul Weaver, Korean adoptee who murdered his American adopters.

An average of about 225 people kill a parent every year in the United States (according to research by Kathleen M. Heide, a professor of criminology at the University of South Florida, Tampa). While the majority of Serial Killers are adoptees, the largest number of adopted killers appears to be Adoptees Who Kill Their Adopters and/or Adoptive Relatives. The total number of Adopted Killers is unknown, but appears to be an over-representation. The 300 adopted killers profiled, by category of killer type, is an attempt to explain how adoption can create a killer, so 300 are just the tip of the iceberg. Indexed.

WHAT MAKES AN ADOPTEE "ANGRY ENOUGH TO KILL?"

An adoptee (lovemycat52@yahoo.com) wrote:
"I am 51 years old and I was adopted at 18 months old. I was a psychological mess by the time I graduated from high school. I was in and out of two mental hospitals etc and I tried to shove it all under the carpet and pretend it didn't happen because I didn't understand why or how or what. It wasn't until a little over a week ago that I started looking into adoption and adoptees' rights, stumbled upon your site and started reading, and then started reading other sites too. Now I realize I wasn't crazy! "The Primal Wound", I mean, Oh My God, that is exactly how it is. I have written a letter to a judge in Washington requesting my records... I used to say that I could never understand how someone could be angry enough to kill someone but I have felt that much anger lately. I have received what amounts to a life sentence away from my family and for what? Something that happened in my mothers life? ...It is the ultimate child abuse. Sometimes I feel like it is too hard to bear."

“…although adopted children commit murders more often than commonly believed, there is resistance to making an issue of this fact. This may be because of the secrecy associated with many adoptions and the failure of criminal justice agencies to record the nature of an offender's family background. From a legal posture, an adopted child is simply the child of his adoptive parents. …the psychodynamics of adoption are easily overlooked in forensic mental health evaluations.”

Excerpted from "ADOPTION FORENSICS: THE CONNECTION BETWEEN ADOPTION AND MURDER" by David Kirschner, PhD

“Of the 500 estimated serial killers in U.S. history, 16 percent were adopted as children, while adoptees represent only 2 or 3 percent of the general population. Adoptees are 15 times more likely to kill one or both of their adoptive parents than biological children.”
