HOW TO SUBMIT ADOPTED PRISONERS STORIES

Adopted Prisoner is sponsored by Americans for Open Records (AmFOR), as a totally free service to incarcerated ADOPTEES only. Unlike "prisoner penpal" web pages (for which there are Links at the bottom of the main page) AdoptedPrisoners.com provides a place for individuals whose voice may otherwise be silenced and whose existence may be otherwise "invisible," due to their secret adoptions and incarceration. Many have, for years, been wanting to connect with their unknown "birth" families; others need to finally expose the abuse they've endured since early childhood; others need referrals to attorneys or various prisoner resources or other information; many need to share their talents and hopes for the future; many need all of the aforementioned. The prisoners' contact information will appear on their personal web pages they can be contacted, directly and free of charge, by anyone who wishes to do so. Many on the Adoptees on these pages have reported receiving the only personal, supportive correspondence they have ever had while in prison. Others have found their "birth" famlies, obtained legal asistance, contributed to research on adoption issues. Their personal web pages are provided, free of charge, at their request with signed permission. Relatives and friends of the Adoptee may assist by submitting information in their behalf, pending signed permission directly from the inmate. A printout of the Adoptee's personal page will be mailed to the adoptee.

A clear PHOTO "humanizes" the inmate and will more likely attract response than a web page with no photo. Photos will not be returned unless requested. [Note: Prisons permit the inmate to send out a Polaroid photo but not to receive one back, so AmFOR will return a color photocopy of a Polaroid if requested. Some states prohibit prisoners from having "pen pal" web pages, so it is important not to reference this web site as a "pen pal" website, since it is not intended for that purpose, but any prisoner can receive mail.]

Here's what we need to create a personal ADOPTED PRISONERS web page.

  1. Full Name, Prisoner Number, Prison Name and Complete Address with Zip Code.
  2. Date and Place of Birth and Adoption and/or any known adoption information--known names/dates/city/state/agency involved.
  3. Description: Height, Weight, Hair and Eye color and (preferably) a Photo.
  4. Ethnic background and Nationality (Caucasian/White, African-American/Black, Hispanic, Native American and tribe if known, Asian, or other--specifically).
  5. YOUR STORY - whatever it is you'd like known about you and your life.
  6. Who are you searching for? (Mother, Father, Siblings, Any family members)
  7. Education (elementary, high school--grad? GED?, college, technical school) and/or training.
  8. Plans for further education and/or training, job or business.
  9. Interests (such as type of books, music, hobbies)
  10. Crime for which you were convicted (and anything you'd like to say about it). and Earliest Appeal, Parole and Release Dates. (And do you need an attorney?)
  11. Briefly describe what you are seeking...
  12. ... and anything else you'd like to say.
