FAMOUS QUOTES ABOUT COMPASSION FOR PRISONERS...

Jesus' teaching (Matthew 25:31-46) called us to be with those in prison; He didn't qualify it with why they were there. And in the story of the prodigal son (Book of Job), Christ urged compassion for all, even those in prison.

"Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners..."
--Hebrews 13:13

"I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness to open blind eyes, to bring out prisoners from that dungeon, and those who dwell in darkness from the prison."
--Isaiah 42:6,7

"For you had compassion on those in prison, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and abiding one."
--Hebrews 10:34

"When we forgive, we set the prisoner free and discover that the prisoner we set free is us."
--Lewis B. Smedes

"What you do to these men, you do to God"
--Mother Teresa during her visit to San Quentin Prison

"An eye for an eye will make us all blind."
--Ghandi

The Men Behind the Wall

Some men live for others and make their presence known
Some men live in seclusion and choose to live alone
Some men stand for justice and walk inside the law
But of these men, the group I'm in
Are the men behind the wall...

They've given up their freedom, they've sacrificed their rights
By day they walk in darkness, and sorrow fills their nights
They've learned to hide their teardrops, but still the teardrops fall
They cry alone, and hope seems gone
For the men behind the wall...

Some have lost their families, most have lost their friends
Today will bring a heartache tomorrow cannot mend
Where letters are not answered, where no one takes their call
They count their cost, and much is lost
For the men behind the wall

If there is one who's righteous, then let him cast the stone
And if you've known perfection, then let him die alone
The one Man who was perfect was judged in Pilate's hall
He knows best their debt and loves them yet
These men behind the wall...
